Mr. Matney is a senior analyst at B&D, providing planning and strategic advisory services to the firm’s higher education clients. Prior to joining B&D, Paul served as a Business Officer for dining and catering operations at North Carolina State University where he led the department’s annual budgeting process across 35 on-campus venues, managed cross-functional interdepartmental teams in planning and implementing strategic initiatives, and supported the institution’s 15-year capital investment plan. Paul was recognized with NC State’s 2024 Staff Sustainability Award for his leadership as president of the dining Sustainability Committee, having collaborated with students and professional staff to realize the University’s stated commitment to environmental stewardship.
Paul oversaw the day-to-day operations of multiple on-campus retail dining venues at both Appalachian State University and North Carolina State University, providing him with unique and valuable insights into the campus communities’ and foodservice employees’ experiences engaging with campus dining. Paul earned a master’s degree in operations research from North Carolina State University and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Appalachian State University.
