Austin Independent School District partners with B&D to “reinvent the urban school district”

Facilities Master Plan

Facing aging school buildings, new educational philosophies, and a competitive environment brought on by shifting demographics and escalating housing costs, AISD sought out B&D to define an innovative facilities master plan.

B&D charted a path to achieve the District’s vision by identifying the level and nature of capital investments that were needed in each facility. In order to assure public support and a successful bond measure vote, B&D engaged the public in a year-long planning process in collaboration with AISD leadership, staff, and an 18-person citizen committee.

Serving as AISD’s advisor, B&D managed the comprehensive planning process and team of experts. The team implemented an analytics process grounded in the District’s strategic vision to ensure the planning was efficient and aligned with stakeholder aspirations.

By respecting and understanding the Austin community, B&D developed a data-informed, but also community-focused, facilities master plan that will continue to serve as a high-level roadmap for the entire district over the next 25 years.

“B&D developed and managed a well thought out process including extensive leadership, staff, and community collaboration, which was critical to the program’s success. The result was a community-led and data driven 25-year FMP that will set a new industry standard and will be AISD’s guiding document as we embark on re-inventing the urban school district.”
