Three institutions win advisory services from B&D

B&D to provide pro bono climate advisory support to Second Nature competition winners

Washington, DC, March 2025 — Brailsford & Dunlavey is pleased to announce that Macalester College, North Carolina State University, and the University of Wisconsin–Madison have each been awarded $25,000 worth of climate action advisory services from the firm’s Energy & Sustainability practice group as part of Second Nature’s Solutions Center Consulting Initiative competition.

Now in its fourth year, this competitive initiative provides selected higher education institutions with expert consulting support to accelerate their climate action efforts. In 2025, a total of seven colleges and universities were awarded pro bono consulting services from three firms: Brailsford & Dunlavey, Coho and Ever-Green Energy.

B&D will work closely with its three awardees to develop actionable strategies for reducing carbon footprints and advancing campus sustainability goals. The firm’s advisory support will focus on:

  • Climate action planning: Assisting the three institutions in developing or refining a baseline greenhouse gas inventory and crafting a climate action roadmap, or,
  • Scope deep dive or climate action plan updates: Conducting technical analyses of Scope 1 and 2, or Scope 3 emissions, or updating an existing climate action plan.

Since the competition’s launch, B&D has been a proud partner in the initiative, providing pro bono climate action consulting to each year’s selected institutions. Through this ongoing commitment, B&D has helped numerous campuses assess their carbon footprints, develop actionable sustainability strategies, and implement impactful climate initiatives that drive long-term environmental progress.

“We are honored to support these universities in advancing their climate action goals,” said B&D Senior Associate Cheri Chastain, who served as one of the judges. “Strategic planning plays a critical role in sustainability, and we look forward to collaborating with this year’s recipients to drive meaningful progress and long-term impact.”

This initiative reflects B&D’s commitment to sustainability, resilience, and innovation in higher education. By offering in-kind consulting to institutions pursuing climate action, B&D helps campuses turn vision into implementation, ensuring that sustainability initiatives are both actionable and transformative.
